Overall I thought the academy awards went well.
Ellen did a great job hosting. McConaughy and Leto got rewarded for acting they're butts off. There weren't too many surprises.
I feel like everyone who won deserved to win, except for one. That would be the best picture category. Gravity got Avatared. I'm not comparing the two, except for the fact that the academy seems to love the advancements in technology that the sci-fi genre brings to film. I agree that the hurt locker was a much better film than avatar, but gravity cleaned up last night. It even won best director. Had Cate Blanchett not gone all Blanche Dubois on us I feel like Sandy would have walked away with her second statue. Gravity is a mind blowing cinematic experience and it deserved best picture. 12 years a slave was good, great even, but Gravity is this generations 2001: a space odyssey, so I guess it's fitting that it didn't win best pic.
20, 50 years from now people will still be watching and talking about gravity, not 12 years.
Django has more staying power than 12 years.
One last thing, I was really hoping June Squib would have pulled out the upset.
